Minimum Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area (education, counseling, psychology, social work or related field) and one year of appropriate experience in a secondary/postsecondary setting; prior work experience related to project objectives; experience working with students with similar backgrounds as target population, or relevant experience may substitute for required education.

This is a grant funded position, contingent upon funding availability.

8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Some weekends, nights, and overnight travel as required by recruitment activities. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Additional Position Information

This is a federally-funded position, and as such is grant funded through August 31, 2022. Employment is contingent upon continued funding through the Department of Education.

Job Duties

Duties & Responsibilities

Manages a program participant caseload not to exceed thirty students; conduct meetings with program participants on a bi-weekly or monthly basis dependent on program participants needs focusing on academic coaching, goal setting and assistance in secondary course completion, assistance in completing the FAFSA, educational counseling designed to improve financial and economic literacy, guidance and assistance in applying for post-secondary admission. Updates program participant files and student information database after each meeting; in compliance with Department of Education (ED) and University protocol.

Assists in the in-take process for new applicants to the program, including but not limited to, scheduling the intake interview, conducting the interviews, assessments of the student’s eligibility for the program and provide input to the director for the final decision making process for program eligibility. Also, scheduling and oversight of orientation assessments once the student is admitted into the program as a participant.

Conducts follow up for active/in-active program participants to include: monitoring of retention, academic standing and progress towards graduation.

Supports program participants with completing their Individual Success Plans on a semester basis; establish contracts with program participants on a semester basis outlining students goals/objectives.

Participates in departmental recruitment, retention and graduation initiatives as outlined in the departmental strategic plan and the grants submitted to the ED.

Assists the Coordinator, Upward Bound Program in continuing to build collaborative partnerships with other University departments, community agencies, and target school personnel in order to facilitate services provided to Upward Bound program participants.

Participates in the planning and execution of Upward Bound programs such as mentoring and summer component.
