Position Summary

The College of Education is seeking applications for a transformational leader to serve as Director of Teacher Education and Clinical Assistant Professor. This position is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track appointment set to begin in July 2018 (subject to negotiation). The Office of Teacher Education and Clinical Practice offers an array of services to support students pursuing Teacher Licensure in Tennessee at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The University of Memphis Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) are nationally accredited and recognized as programs that prepare teacher candidates for PreK-12 education. The curriculum programs have been redesigned to be practitioner oriented and responsive to the needs of our partnering school districts. Additionally, effective partnerships have been established to enable our candidates to complete their yearlong Residency in the classrooms of highly effective teachers. Candidates must demonstrate their command of teaching and learning by submitting a successful edTPA portfolio. The Director of Teacher Education and Clinical Practice will be responsible for working collaboratively with Department Chairs and Faculty to implement the prescribed programs of study with fidelity and coordinating the services and support that foster student success. This position also carries a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor enabling the Director to teach courses that support the mission of our Educator Preparation Programs.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in education; preferably in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or related field;
• Prior PK-12 teaching experience; and
• Experience establishing positive collaborations with schools;

Desired Qualifications:
• Successful experience as an administrator or supervisor of faculty, staff, and/or personnel;
• Successful experience mentoring clinical supervisors;
• Successful experience directing clinical practice in a NCATE/CAEP accredited institution OR successful administrative experience in a NCATE/CAEP accredited Education Provider Program;
• Successful experience designing and implementing training programs for mentors and supervisors of teacher candidates engaged in clinical practice;
• Successful experience designing and implementing assessment instruments and experience in data analysis of clinical practice performance data for use toward EPP improvement;
• Commitment to cultural responsiveness and inclusiveness by developing/implementing innovative programs and services that respect the diverse needs of our partners from all communities; and
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and in formal presentations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of, and appreciation for, working with students, faculty, and schools in diverse settings (urban, suburban, and rural);
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations.
• Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work;
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
