Master’s degree in relevant area with 8-10 years of progressive management experience in housing and/or residence life.

The department is especially interested in candidates with a Doctoral degree; more than 5 years in a senior level management position.

This position will require the need to work/travel beyond normal work schedule to include The University of Memphis Lambuth Campus in Jackson, TN.

Job Duties

Duties & Responsibilities

Fiscal Operations – develop, manage, and track operating budget of approximately $25 million for Residence Life (main campus and Lambuth), Dining Services, and the Child Development Center. Track budget projections, ensuring judicious use of university funds.
Actively pursue alternative revenue sources to expand operating budget.
Institute quality enhancement measures specific to each department to increase retention, occupancy, and revenue.
Work collaboratively with Legal Counsel and Business & Finance to engage in contract negotiation for services.
Oversee development of marketing strategies to increase occupancy and revenue generation. Work collaboratively with division leadership to engage in fundraising & development; grant-writing, and sponsorship activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supervision, Operations, & Planning – oversees the development of assessment plans and strategic goals, enhance operations, and staff supervision for Residence Life, Dining Services, and the Child Development Center.
Provides daily supervision of a management team that supervises approximately 350 employees, including contract labor.
Develop processes to ensure assessment is integrated into all operations, programs, and services offered from all departments
Coordinate and implement the planning process, program assessment, and staff evaluations for all areas within supervision. Work collaboratively with stakeholders across campus to ensure university retention and graduation goals achieved.
Conduct annual reviews of the training programs for staff and students, to ensure best practices are implemented.
Create an environment built around outcomes and assessment that ultimately leverages opportunities to create engaging experiences for all on campus students.
Respond to emergency and crisis situations as needed.
Facilitate processes with the key campus constituents in response to judicial, crises, and emergency situations, including Dean of Students; Health Center, Campus Police, Legal Affairs, etc.)

Duties & Responsibilities

Space Management – provide leadership in the use, development, and maintenance of approximately 800,000 square ft. of facilities. Work collaboratively with Physical Plant & Planning to ensure optimization of current use and plan for future needs.

Division Leadership – as part of the division leadership team, this person will represent the interests of the VPSA, including serving on division and university committees, engaging with community partners, and serving as a primary contact in some instances of the absence of the VPSA.
