Position Summary

The Department of Instruction & Curriculum Leadership in the College of Education seeks a Clinical Instructor of Elementary Urban Education. This is a full-time, twelve month, non-tenure track faculty appointment starting in fall 2018. The expected teaching load is four courses per semester of the academic year and three in the summer. This position includes spending productive time in partner elementary schools. The desired candidate will have experience in the content area of elementary teacher education, urban teacher education, and field-based teacher education. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to high quality teaching and service at a large research-based institution that integrates high leverage practices into their coursework and professional development. The desired candidate will have knowledge of the edTPA, university teaching experience (including face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments), and teaching experience with K-5 children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds and have a commitment to preservice teacher preparation programs that directly lead to licensure. The applicant should be committed to (1) diversity, social justice, and equity in order to promote effective learning; (2) culturally relevant practice; (3) engaging history and present social inequities and uses reflective practice to challenge their work and explicitly confront social inequality; and (4) reflecting on their own identities in relationship to social justice as it pertains to local, national and/or global contexts. • Teach and supervise field-based, on campus and online elementary education or related undergraduate and graduate courses;
• Mentor and supervise teacher education candidates in field experiences and residency in PK-5 schools;
• Provide professional service to surrounding community partners, programs and urban schools;
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and service;
• Teach four courses in spring, three courses in summer, and four courses in fall.

Minimum Position Qualifications

• Master’s degree (Doctorate preferred) in Elementary Education, Urban Teacher Education, or closely related teaching field;
• Experience fostering justice and equity in teaching and service and
• Evidence of excellence in teaching for a minimum of 3 years in the PK-6 setting (current teacher license desired).

• Experience with urban elementary education;
• Experience with field-based teacher education;
• Experience in collaborative school and community-based initiatives and partnerships;
• Experience teaching at the college level;
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and service;
• Commitment to meeting the educational and cultural needs of diverse populations;
• Knowledge of academic and behavioral research-based teaching strategies;
• Expertise in using classroom assessments and student achievement data to inform instruction;
• Demonstrated ability to apply the teacher education assessments;
• Knowledge of the edTPA (education Teacher Performance Assessment); and
• Demonstrated teacher leadership and professional development experience.
