Minimum Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Verifies eligibility of employees and dependents for all benefit plans; processes and tracks employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations for all insurance plans in University payroll system and State of TN insurance system.

Manages all leave programs by reviewing, analyzing, and making determinations on employee benefits issues related to leaves of absence including FMLA, ADA, Professional Development Assignments, military, leaves without pay, and workers’ compensation.

Administers the workers’ compensation program to include initial intake, referral to network provider(s), communication with physician regarding return to work status, etc. Works closely with third party vendors administrator (Corvel).

Provides counseling for the family of deceased employees and dependents and processing death claims/forms and submitting to appropriate agency for claims processing.

Responsible for retirement and disability claims counseling and processing by providing specific information on benefits based on years of service, salary, etc. and ensuring proper paperwork is filed with the appropriate agencies.

Determines eligibility for Educational Assistance Program for employees and dependents; in conjunction with the Bursar’s office, establishes semester deadlines for submission of forms; process and tracks fee waivers/discounts in the University’s Student system.

Processes Optional Retirement Program (ORP) withdrawals.

Analyzes and certifies requests for prior service employees enrolled in the TN Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS).

Conducts new employee benefits orientation and information workshops to educate employees on benefit related programs.

Determines eligibility and processes enrollments, changes, terminations for deferred compensation programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Interacts with agencies such as Social Security Administration, State of TN Benefits Administration, TCRS, and ORP and other benefits vendors to complete paperwork as needed for requests for enrollments, and changes in coverage.

Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and statues in all benefit related programs by reviewing policies, participating in seminars and conference calls, researching updates that may impact employee benefits.
