Position Summary

The University of Memphis Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin Fall 2018 at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Department is principally seeking a candidate with a research agenda focusing on race and social justice. We are particularly interested in individuals capable of examining the intersection between race and policing. The University of Memphis is an R2 university emphasizing research, teaching, and service. The Department is a research-intensive group of faculty working within an environment committed to diversity, community engagement, and collaboration.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related field. Applicants who are ABD will be considered, with the Ph.D. to be conferred by the time of employment. A J.D. or Ed.D. will not be considered as a terminal degree for this position. Successful applicants are expected to have evidence of or show strong potential for scholarly research and publications, teaching effectiveness, and the ability to engage in scholar/practitioner partnerships to enhance the functioning of community agencies involved in criminal justice. Experience with or potential for securing external funding is also desired, and we seek in particular candidates who are willing to collaborate with other departmental faculty to apply for external funding. Additionally, we seek candidates who have an interest in collaborating with and mentoring graduate students.
