Position Summary

The Department of Physics and Materials Science at the University of Memphis is seeking highly qualified individuals for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Astrophysics to begin in Fall 2018. The department offers BS and MS programs in physics in the College of Arts and Sciences, and a PhD program in engineering physics through the Herff College of Engineering. Successful candidates are expected to develop strong and independent research programs through external research funding, effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor both graduate and undergraduate students, and provide services to the Department and/or University. Qualified individuals in observational, computational, theoretical, and instrumental astrophysics, astronomy, or astroparticle physics are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to help build a new concentration in Astronomy at the undergraduate level and be actively involved in outreach activities.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD degree in Astrophysics, Astronomy, Physics, or closely related disciplines with research experience astronomy and/or astrophysics fields. Have demonstrated teaching experience as teaching assistant, instructor, or mentor for research.
