Position Summary

All applicants must have a record of professional creative activity and effective educational experience demonstrating artistic ability in Costume Design (primary) and allied design areas and/or crafts. Teaching abilities and commitment to student mentoring and development suitable for a professional training program offering the M.F.A. and B.F.A. in theatrical design.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in Costume Design (all levels), Period Style, Rendering, Introduction to Design, and Introduction to Theatre. Opportunities to teach courses in allied design areas exist. Production responsibilities include serving as costume designer or costume design advisor for a season of typically five or six productions and supervision of the costume production area. Continued involvement in professional theatre is expected. Departmental responsibilities include advising and mentoring of M.F.A. and B.F.A. candidates, as well as assigned committee work. The position is supported by a staff costume shop supervisor and GAs.

Minimum Position Qualifications

M.F.A. in theatrical design, production, or similar terminal degree is required.

Special Conditions

Experience using computer technologies in the area of costume design desirable.
