Position Summary

The Department of Civil Engineering, University of Memphis invites applications for one postdoctoral research position in transportation, to begin April 1st, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will work on projects related to resilience of networks (both physical and cyber). Salary is competitive and includes full benefits (health insurance, retirement plan, etc.).

Minimum Position Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in transportation (not necessarily from Civil Engineering). A background in applied mathematics and/or operations research is required and a background in passenger and/or freight transportation is preferred but not required. Candidates should have a publication record in related fields. Knowledge of travel demand modeling software (e.g., TransCAD, Cube, Visum) meso- and micro-scopic simulation (Vissim, Synchro), Geographic Information Systems software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) is preferred. Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, Matlab) and optimization software (e.g., GAMS, Lingo) is required.

Special Conditions

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to carry out research under minimal supervision, contribute to the preparation of research proposals and publications (quarterly and final reports, peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings) and mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants and students.
