Position Summary

The Department of Psychology at The University of Memphis invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor position to begin August 2018. We are seeking applicants whose research and training interests include a strong focus on diversity, underserved populations, and health disparities that can enrich and enhance scholarship in these areas and bridge across the department’s areas of strength. The area of specialization for this position is open and might include clinical, experimental, and school psychology. Successful applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Psychology. Memphis provides a rich context for those committed to conducting research on underserved populations and persons of color.
The ideal candidate will have a strong record of programmatic research and publications, currently have or is likely to obtain external funding, and have had experience in or evidence of potential for successful research that spans across areas. Exceptional collaborative and interdisciplinary research opportunities are available on campus, including the Institute for Intelligent Systems, and within the Memphis area, including The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, among others. The colleague recruited under this search will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, which may include courses in research methods or statistics.
The University of Memphis Psychology Department consists of more than 30 full-time faculty members, 124 graduate students, and 750 undergraduate majors. In 1984, the Department was selected as one of the first Centers of Excellence within the state, becoming home to the Center for Applied Psychological Research, which was subsequently designated as an Accomplished Center of Excellence (4 years later) in recognition of the consistently high quality research, teaching, and service. Graduate degree programs include APA-accredited doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology and School Psychology; a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology; a master’s degree program in General Psychology; and a M.A./Ed.S. Program in School Psychology.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Psychology. Commitment to excellence in research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level. The department is especially interested in candidates who have a strong record of research publications, currently have or are likely to obtain external funding, and have had experience in or reveal potential for successful collaborative research. Experience beyond receipt of the doctoral degree is highly desired.
